Beautiful Loser

Do I blame Donovan McNabb for the Eagles imploding in Arizona Sunday, an even that dropped his record to 1-4 in NFC Championship Game starts?

Not really.

He's on the "Goat" list -- somewhere below defensive coordinator Jim Johnson -- and above the defensive line that couldn't generate pressure. But that's as far as I can go.

He didn't lose the game (the defense did by allowing 24 points in the first half and playing a matador style on the definitive drive in the fourth quarter), but he could have strapped the team on his back and still won it.

But that's not Donovan McNabb.

He wins, but he's not a winner.

He's not John Elway, Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas -- or Kurt Warner.

He is who he is -- and the Eagles of this era are what they are -- and neither will be anything more or less.

And another franchise rises up from the vast wasteland of NFL mediocrity -- and our expense -- and passes us by.

As in Politics - if everything is going perfectly we are #1 and the people will back us. Maybe next year will be better for both the Eagles and the US - change is needed in the sports end if we are to overcome.

I bet I could have led the winning drive at the end.

Gordy - I'm sorry you were not invited to the "Super" Game Party at the White House. Our two Senators will be attending, with of course a dish to pass. You know there is a serious situation here concerning the cost of entertaining at the White House - it is part of "Change"... I hope they do not all bring a stringbean casserole!

Big Ben delivers when it counts; Donovan does not.
Your are soooo right. Donovan wins, but is not a winner. That pretty much sums it up.

Gordy.. My Back Page during Nov. and Dec. were quite interesting. What happened in January and now we are in Mid Feb.?? The sport of Politics is there - how about the cost of fliting around in the #1 Presidential Airplane? The amount used in the Printing Arena for all Congressmen/women and Senators to read in a days time, that knowing for sure it would be impossible and a few million more dollars will end up in PA. But, then how about Baseball - how much is too much each year for these players? I know like most jobs, positions only come up once in a life time and younger people, right out of college have great ideas and the boss says "let's go with him" and out goes your job, etc. Just a thought to get you going Gordy.
