Birthday
I couldn't let today -- Sept. 23, 2009 -- pass without wishing my main man, Bruce Springsteen, a happy birthday. It was 60 years ago that he was "Born In The U.S.A." May all of us be just a little more like you, Bruce. The world would be a better place.
You took the words right out of my mouth there. I never got Bruce Springsteen. I guess he is an OK writer, but the voice is aggravating and the music isn't very catchy. I think most people like him because he comes across as the underdog who beat the odds, which he did -- by not having professional musical talent but trying hard anyway. Sometimes the American dream can turn into a nightmare. Sorry to break your heart here Gordon. I love ya, but I can't go there.
Bruce is quite simply the greatest artist of his generation, bar none. Who among the current lineup of computer-enhanced, uh, "singers" today could even approach Springsteen's talent.
For my money, "Thunder Road" is the greatest song ever written by anyone anywhere. "Prove it All Night" is second, followed by the rare, electrified version of "Atlantic City" that he sometimes pulls out in concert.
Maybe with a lot of voice training he could become a singer. I believe "Born in the USA", if sung by another trained singer, would become more acceptable and go down in history like "God Bless America" and Kate Smith.
I like the song, that is a protest song, but a great voice(s) was needed when presented... "Let There Be Peace On Earth..." do you recall it? Yes, and it and Kate Smith's version of "God Bless America" will always be number One when we think of America in good times and bad. Happy Birthday Bruce, but your voice is getting too old, give it up!
Going to the big concert in Phila. Gordy? I understand Springsteen is the Closing Act - now I hope that will mean for the whole year. So many concerts that are presented to the public have some Doctors as backers - hearing that is and I can imagine this is one of them.
Please give Gordy a ticket to any concert - it really does not make too much a difference as long as it does not have a lot of yelling, instead of singing. Semi-classical would be the best for him, so he could really see what most of us really like.
Location: Southeastern Pennsylvania, United States
Congratulations!
If you're here, you have gotten your grubby paws on a ticket to a ringside seat to the ongoing slugfest between the two Gordons.
One is a fighter. One is a writer.
One day - when the sun is shining, the birds are singing, the ice in our hard hearts is melting and Springsteen is playing on the radio - they will learn to co-exist.
Until then, enjoy the carnage!

Let me salute to that with a double shot!
I could have thought maybe 70 would be more like it with the voice and the inability to sing.

Go listen to Taylor Swift, Sheryl!
My favorite Springsteen memory is when Ronald Reagan started using BORN IN THE USA as a theme song in his 1980 campaign. Springsteen made him stop!
tlee2 .. Another Tin Ear!
Gordon! The Go-Go's?

Happy Birthday Boss!

"Born In The USA" isn't even a patriotic song. It is a protest song. Since you didn't know that, your opinion on his voice has no bearing either.
That we can all believe!

He use to be good - but now his voice is wearing. The time has come!
