Black Is Black

Hoping to clarify a point in today's column "Murdock and the Mayonnaise Mafia:" I wrote that Deroy Murdock is not an African American but is dark-skinned. A reader promptly called in confused, as Murdock's picture that runs with his weekly column shows that he is black man. The reader joked that there must be something wrong with his eyesight.
No need to get those eyes checked, sir. You are not going blind, like Glenn Beck.
Murdock is a first generation American of Costa Rican heritage, meaning he is not an "African" American, per se -- just like a Haitian in America would be a Haitian American and a Jamaican a Jamaican American.
The point beyond the technicalities is that Murdock still fits into the retro term of "colored" and should be nothing less than ashamed of himself for ripping the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) just to appease the white man's choir to which he proudly preaches.

I had to Google Deroy Murdock after reading your column, but now I understand. It's an important distinction because he is not coming from the same place as someone who is a descendant of slaves. He still falls under the protection of the NAACP, whether he wants it or not. Curious. Parents are from Costa Rica. Are they legal?

I don't think you need to clarify anything. If people don't get it, they are not worth the time trying to get them there.

That song also has a lyric stating "gray is gray." A lot of gray area to be sorted out, all the way around, to pass judgment on anyone.

Who is passing judgment? What are you talking about?

Black is Black - yes and White is White - yes and Yellow is Yellow !! Why is the color so important when reading an article? We all can check our the facts and decide for ourself. If for some reason you do not care for a writer of a column, then don't read it. You do have a choice.

Not reading someone is not the answer. It's best to stay well informed of all points of view.

After seeing pictures of the tea party people and the racists among them not being thrown out, I think Deroy is wearing rose-colored glasses or the same ones that Palin wears.

I saw one that had a reference about tar, feathers and a pitchfork. Here's a link to another, that references the n-word: http://www.blueridgemuse.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/teapartyracism2.jpg

So, let's hear Deroy and Palin explain those signs. Or will Palin have to look at the notes on her hand to respond.

Gordon, you may have referred to the old term of "colored", but I have lived a life of being discriminated against, and I am managing to keep my head high; however, I have one word to describe Deroy. He is nothing but a "token".

Did you say a person should read all columns so that they would be well informed? I agree! It seems that too many readers of this Post only see one side of any picture, no wonder so many use the Race Card to try and get a point across.

Funny how some want to say Black people are using the race card. I say it is reverse. Just a way to try to put someone on the defense instead of explaining why you think it's right to discriminate. Some of my family could pass for White, but we don't. However, when two members in their Air Force full dress uniforms were discriminated against, one asked if he was White, then the glass that he was drinking out of was broken by the bartender. The other was refused a ride in taxis driven by White drivers, and while waiting for a Black driver to take him to the Air Base, was shot at, AGAIN, in FULL DRESS UNIFORM, protecting the U.S.A. So, don't get it twisted!

Tea Party folks that want to take the country back NOW, and lower the taxes and monies being spent by the government, didn't so much as peep when G.W. Bush was fighting an expensive oil war, which never exposed any weapons of mass destruction, as he claimed, and helped bring the country down the tubes along with his ignoring warnings about the subprime mortgage fiasco.

And, I like how they support the half-governor Palin, who was the earmark queen, supporting the bridge to nowhere, then flip flopping when people protested. But she still had a road to nowhere built to connect to the bridge, made of gravel, costs $26 million for 3.2 miles, which only hikers and maybe a hunter will use now. Yep. And the tea party folks paid $100,000 for Palin to appear at their functions, too. Typical.

Race card my foot! How does anonymous and Deroy explain this?

DERIDDER, LA (KPLC-TV) – The NAACP is calling for the resignation of a Beauregard Parish Police Juror after the juror made a racial remark on July 13th.

Police Juror Rex Brumley used a racial slur right before the start of a finance committee meeting.

One of his fellow jurors asked Brumley where he got the "ugly hat" he was wearing. Brumley responded, saying he got the hat "from a n-----."

Brumley did not apologize for his remarks once the meeting began, however he did apologize the next day during an interview with the Beauregard Daily News.

Brumley told the paper that he wishes he could take the remark back "...but I can't. I'm human and I messed up."

Brumley also said he will not resign, telling the newspaper, "I will not give up my position because I care about the people that I represent in my district and I intend to continue to serve them."

The NAACP said if Brumley continued to refuse to resign, they would take their fight to the state level.

Meanwhile, Brumley has agreed to publicly apologize before a full meeting of the Beauregard Parish Police Jury, which will be held at 6 p.m. on Aug. 10th.

I'm still wondering what Deroy Murdock sees when he looks in the mirror. He must not like it very much.

Where do you come off with that nonsense? Must be the same logic that said Black people voted for Obama because he is Black. What happens when they vote for someone of another race? You are a fool!

And the fool puts his foot in his mouth... "your a fool!" Get back on the short bus for more education. It's "you're a fool!” which you, Tom, have proven yourself to be again.
