Literally, and figuratively, that tragic event -- along with the Manson murders -- signaled the end of the 1960s and the promise that decade held.

Gorden you are date stamping yourself. Did you know Neil?
What a long way we've come in 40 years. The government no longer has to use guns to assassinate those who protest against it; instead they use media lapdogs like you to assassinate the character of the protestors.
Lisa, put a plug in it and have some respect, will ya?
Please. Gordon's weepy reminiscence of the Establishment put down of a populist protest is a little disingenuous considering that a.) the very 60's protestors he worships are now the Establishment and b.) Gordon is a bona fide water carrier for the aforementioned Establishment.
Exhibit A here.
Except that the Vietnam protests weren't being funded by a group of wingnut billionaires via their private foundations. Tea Party protests are.
To say that Tea Party protesters in any way represent real grassroots sentiment is just playing into the fake populism that the Right Wing Billionaires are paying to create.
That's the difference.
You Rock, Pa. Dem!
Two words.
George.
Soros.
Lisa, I wasn't aware that George Soros funded Vietnam protests. Learn something new every day.
MPD, You are so adorable when you switch back to safer ground once the irrelevant point you think you have scored is completely refuted. What does the funding of the tea party have to do with Gordon being a shill for today's Soros-funded establishment? Are we going to have a "who has the most legitimate grassroots movement" contest now?
Never mind! I can see that's an argument you've decided to address in your usual manner of sidestepping the isssue and pretending you've won once you have lost.
OMG, you totally ROCK, Montco Dem!
